NIH R21 Exploratory Research Grant

About this grant

The NIH R21 supports small, exploratory and developmental research projects with up to two years of funding and a total budget not exceeding $275,000 in direct costs. R21 grants are intended for high-risk, high-reward pilot studies that generate preliminary data to support future larger R01 applications. Preliminary data are not required but the proposed research must be innovative.
